WHY USE FARRO (SPELT)?

AT FARRO WE THINK ANCIENT GRAINS ARE THE WAY OF THE FUTURE.

Looking back to past civilisations and past eating habits gives us insight into a more harmonious and healthy way of life from a nutritional point of view. At Farro we want to offer the benefits of spelt as an ancient grain in a modern day setting, and we believe in a natural, GMO free, and organic diet, which is why we only use 100% organic spelt flour for all our pizzas, bread and pastas.

WHY IS OUR DOUGH SO UNIQUE?

We specialise in artisanal sourdough pizza, using exclusively organic and local grown milled grains, spelt, and ancient methods of fermentation.

Meet Daniele, the mastermind behind our unique pizza dough!
He has developed his passion for pizza since a very young age.

In fact, he made his first pizza at 3 years old. Coming from two generations of passionate pizza makers, he says himself, 'Making pizza is in my DNA.'

And making it delicious has never been the only goal; we strive to create pizza that is good for your soul—filled with top-quality, real ingredients that taste good and feel great in your body.

BENEFITS OF SPELT....

THE SPELT GRAIN IS A HYBRID OF EMMER WHEAT AND GOAT GRASS. SPELT IS BY NATURE A WHOLEFOOD.

The spelt grain is a hybrid of Emmer Wheat and Goat Grass. Spelt is, by nature, a wholefood.

While spelt is not gluten free, it has been proven to be a gentler, less bloating alternative to wheat grains. One reason for this is its high fibre content, which makes it easier to digest the gluten, as well as helping to lower cholesterol.

Unlike wheat, where vital nutritional bran and germ are usually removed during milling, the vital substances of spelt are found in the inner kernel of the grain. It has a nutty flavour, high nutritional value and is a nourishing alternative to Wheat.

Spelt is high in B vitamins, manganese and mineral magnesium and also contains vitamin E, potassium and iron. It is a high source of protein and is good for your blood and bones! Its molecular makeup and lower glycemic index helps your body digest the grain slowly, resulting in slow-release energy.

A BIT OF ITS HISTORY…

SPELT’S ANCIENT BEGINNINGS SAW IT CULTIVATED BY MANY EARLY CIVILISATIONS INCLUDING THE ROMANS.

Legend has it the Roman army would eat spelt before going into battle and be sustained by its slow-release energy. In essence, spelt sustained a civilisation and empire.

Pizza that won’t make you bloat doesn’t exis-

We specialise in artisanal sourdough pizza, using exclusively organic and local grown milled grains, spelt, and ancient methods of fermentation.

FARRO [SPELT]

Spelt has a UNIQUE nutty flavour, high nutritional value and, is very nourishing. Using organic spelt flour is the best way to go, both in their taste and health benefits.

SOURDOUGH

We feel passionately about sharing our 15 years old organic spelt sourdough with our community. Making sourdough isn't just a branding exercise, it is a superior method of fermenting and rising the dough that also has many health benefits. We have doing it this way for thousands of years, and we think it’s still the most delicious way to make pizza!

SLOW-FERMENTATION

Our dough has been looked after & cared for 72 hours before it finds its way to your plate. The slow fermentation helps the dough to mature, develop flavour, become lighter, filled with more air and become easier to digest.
